Thirlmere through the trees
What a morning - we decided to add Helvellyn, Nethermost Pike and Dollywagon Pike to our Wainwright tally. As we parked and started walking, the drizzle started. At the top of Helvellyn visibility was near zero, the wind was blowing around 40mph and the rain felt more like hail. The extra is a phone pano at the summit - with two of me! It's a good job we know the paths well up there - and know what the views would have been like (as we could see nothing).
Only as we finally descended off Dollywagon Pike, did the clouds begin to clear - and of course, as we got back to lake level, we had blue skies and sunshine! But the bonus was that we ended up on this path that neither of us had ever walked.
We did think it'd have been better to set off later, but by the time we got home, we still only had about 4 hours until the light went, and if anything went wrong up the mountains - it's easy to be stuck there in the dark.
Managed 10 miles and 3000 feet of climbing, and have taken the total up to 92 Wainwrights completed!
