Summer Afternoon

It was the colors that got me: that lavender against the indigo sky, and that glowing pale green in the foreground. It rained here on the central coast, not something that usually happens in August. My neighbor, also raised back east, and I agreed it felt like a summer from our childhoods—the smell of warm rain is so different than the scent of winter storms. Actually it could hardly be considered rain, compared to what’s happening in the rest of the state, but it’s noteworthy for us, so here I am, noting it.

As for the late season wisteria: it’s a mystery to me, but it sure is pretty.
