Seed Heads

on Fritillaria imperialis, the Crown Imperial. Blipped in April as the flowers were pollinated. The flowers hang down - it keeps the rain out, but turn upwards as they fade and the seed heads form. When the seed heads dry out, the pods open at the top and the large, flat, papery seeds will be scattered as the wind blows the stem around and the seed gets shaken out.

This shot beat lots of candidates to maintain this weeks blue theme today but look closely and ....
