Hazel Leaf-roller Weevil (Apoderus coryli)
I have a bit of a passion for weevils, and this little fella is one of my favourites.
The female Hazel Leaf-roller cuts hazel leaves along the middle back to the midrib then using her legs 'rolls' them to form a tightly wound cigar shape, inside which she lays her eggs and the subsequent larvae feed.
It is quite widespread in my area, and the local Hazel trees are adorned with lots of cigar shaped hangings like green christmas trees.
I love their bright colours and extended 'neck' hope you do too.
