The new Mr & Mrs K...
Backblip
So our little goddaughter Emily is now a married woman and I can categorically say that hers and Sam's wedding is the best we have ever been to. A day fully focussed on love, laughter, family, and hope for the future.
We arrived at the hotel on time (miracle) to be met by D's bet friend Adrian (the bride's dad) who looked resplendent in his kilt. He advised everything was on schedule and that many tears had been shed during the morning, mainly his at seeing Emily in her wedding dress for the first time :-)
We headed inside and met up with Adrian's dad and his wife and Adrian's sister and her husband. We haven't seen them since Emily's 21st so it was lovely to catch up. Also chatted to my best friend Agnes's (bride's mum) sister Jean and her husband Paul.
Soon to was time to take our places in the beautiful room where the ceremony was to take place.
The celebrant was a lady called Maureen and she was absolutely fantastic. Most of the weddings we've been to have been church weddings and D always get frustrated the wedding guests don't start clapping and cheering when the minister announces that the couple are husband and wife. Well there was plenty clapping and cheering during Emily and Sam's ceremony. It was loving, funny, warm, hilarious and uplifting.
I managed to keep it together until they read their vows to one another. A unique set of promises, personal to them, straight from the heart. So moving.
Ceremony over, we all headed to the beautiful stone terrace for champagne and canapés while the wedding party had the official photos taken. A lovely moment of joy at the ceremony and anticipation of the celebration to come.
Once seated in the ballroom the speeches were delivered before the meal ( a great idea as then all the speech givers could relax and enjoy their meal) Great speeches, Adrian and Sam did so well as did Fiona, Emily's Maid of Honour, and finally the Best Man (Sam's younger brother) whose speech was the perfect blend of hilarious, risqué, and sentimental. Dinner was delicious and then it was time to vacate the room while it was prepared for the party to come.
The reception party started with Emily and Sam's first dance then a father and daughter dance. Emily and Adrian took to the floor for a slow waltz then half way through the music changed and we were treated to a hilarious few minutes of Emily and Adrian doing various dances including YMCA, Night Fever and Gangnam style. I could not stop laughing as this kind of thing is so far out of Adrian's comfort zone but he embraced it 100%. They hadn't told a soul about this so it was a complete surprise for everyone!
The rest of the evening passed in a joy filled blink. The band were fantastic and played till 11pm then a DJ took over, keeping the dance floor filled with great songs interspersed with karaoke. Poor Agnes's name was called first and I take my hat off to her, she got up there and belted out Shut up and Dance with me!
We had reached the end of our energy so said our goodbyes and left just before midnight (the DJ was continuing til 1am!) and headed home very happy that Emily and Sam had their perfect day. They so deserve it :-))
