Great Spotted Woodpecker

The commonest woodpecker in most of Europe, captured close to our hotel, on the last night of our birding tour in Sweden. I suspect it may be a young male, since it has just a hint of red on the head. Also near to the hotel was a black woodpecker--a much less common bird, but distant and elusive, as usual (I got some shots, but they were unfortunately not blipworthy). Otherwise we had a long-eared owl in a very high nest with a tiny chick--both just peeping over the edge.

The week-long tour was excellent--we're about to sleep off our exhaustion at our airport hotel before flying back tomorrow. I'll try to do a summary at the airport, but I may not be able to add it before evening in Boston.
