Roman-era quern stone 500m from my home!
As part of the annual archaeological exploration of Stirling’s King’s Park by the Council’s archaeologist and volunteers, they uncovered this amazing quern stone (for grinding grain). Chatting with Murray the archaeologist, he said it’s thought to be Roman-era, and associated with the site of two roundhouses. My £1 coin is for scale. It’s only about 500m from my home. It’s amazing to think of all the history hidden under a thin skin of soil and vegetation, in the park, but also all around us everywhere that people have lived!
