Goodbye Grey Skies, Hello Blue

My Dear Princess and Dear Fellow,

Lately I've been working very hard to lift the spirits of the team.

Morale has PLUMMETED since the arrival of @rsehole manager and so I've been circling the wagons, assuring other team members we will support each other and work around him.

I'm not being purely altruistic. In supporting in each other, I will get support too.

So there were a lot of nice vibes coming from me but also boomeranging back to me today. And the weather was nice and Caro was happy and we went out for a quick trip to the shops and we had fun and larfs were had and then I went into a meeting with Sian.

If I haven't mentioned Sian before, it's because a) she works in Auckland and b) she's only just joined the team. You've undoubtedly met a Sian though. She's a super-competent business person with expert knowledge. The sort of person we IT people bless and love to work with. She's also very sweary, very strong, very no-nonsense and very Welsh.

"She's the Welsh version of you," I told Caro.

And in fact, as soon as we started talking she reminded me of Caro. She was annoyed, having been put on hold by the customer service rep of a power company.

"I'm going to look up their CEO on LinkedIn and email him," she told me.

"That's EXACTLY the sort of thing Caro does!" I said, astonished by my own perceptiveness. And in fact, earlier this week Caro had been threatening to email the CEO of Kiwiwank for having annoyed her.

"Who is this woman? I must speak to this woman!" demanded Sian.

You don't say no to Sian, so I took my laptop downstairs to meet Caro. The two women got on AMAZINGLY well. They complained about their respective CEOs and laughed with each other and laughed at me.

"This is why you find my husband so compliant and easy to work with," explained Caro. "I broke his spirit years ago."

So it was a fun meeting. We even got some work done. I had fun.

And in the evening Caro and I laughed ourselves silly at a particularly funny episode of "The Chase". Followed by an episode of "Grand Designs" set in Edinburgh.

And I have simple pleasures. And I felt a wave of happiness flow over me.

These happy days are yours and mine.

S.
