A view over fairyland

Fairies: harmless beautiful sylphlike beings with iridescent gossamer wings, always just out of sight in every English country garden.

If only that were true. Beautiful yes, sylphlike certainly, gossamer wings of course. If only they were harmless: if only they were indeed always just out of sight.

This photograph was taken from the closest vantage point we have been able to establish to the current border of their domain. We expect it to be overrun within the next week. The surviving personnel have a strange haunted look: they have seen things which of they cannot speak, things too horrible and strange to contemplate. They have been offered the option of evacuation: all have turned it down. They say they would rather their lives ended soon than that they would go on, forever reliving the things they have seen and done.
