Life Lessons

Add another day of FUN to our summer adventures.

Swimming in the fountain pool,
reading books,
lunch and ice cream cones,
napping,
and then a dinner of pasta at an Pappa Dio's Italian Restaurant with great-grandparents.

Then we were off to Lake Hefner to enjoy a beautiful summer night, no humidity, cool breeze. A very rare summer night in Oklahoma.

We went to the light house,
met new friends, Caleb, 6 and Landen, 2 who were on the rocks around the lake with their dad. Caleb caught his first 2 fish and Landen climbed the rocks and explored, which encouraged Eli to climb the rocks.

More walking around the lake, and then it was off to the lake park.
Lots of kids of all ages and nationalities which was fun, with their parents and grandparents.

Playing on all the equipment,
watching and learning from other kids,
swinging extra high,
sliding down the slide,
and then walking back up the slide.

We were off to Orange Tree after that, a place they sell yogurt and toppings by the pound, with you designing your own cup of yogurt and the toppings of your choice.

But the line was out the door so we went to get blended root beer floats at Sonic instead to top off a fun summer day.

Eli was so exhausted, that after his bath he just wanted to turn the lights out with no stories.

So I imagine his sleep will be filled with sweet dreams, full of fun and adventure.

The lake was full of people, as well as sail boats and one motor boat. People walking, running, biking, rollerblading, eating outside at the restaurants.

We are blessed to have this place to come to, and it was hard to pick a picture to represent the day.

I chose walking up the slide, instead of the conventional way of sliding down the slide.

Eli and I have been talking a lot about courage this week, what it is, where (he asks) is it in your body? All of this has been inspired by the book, and movie, The Wizard of Oz, which is shaping up to be the movie and story of the summer. And his thinking hard what it means to have a brain, a heart and courage.

I've always admired people who have the courage to go against the flow, make a new way. I hope these conversations of courage will bear fruit in the future.

Being at the park, trying new things that scare us but we do anyway, are the babysteps leading to a life of courage. You have to practice courage, everyday, along the way. Build that courage muscle.

I'll end with one of my favorite quotes by Eleanor Roosevelt, "Do something everyday that scares you."
