Good bye University Elementary
Well, the day arrived. The last last day of school. We went out with a bang. The kids had Field Day all morning. 300 pizza's were donated for lunch. And a rockin' band played for an hour while we danced! Many teary eyed parents, students, teachers. A long line for the principal to sign their yearbooks. Lots of plastered smiles and sunglasses! Bittersweet.
I was doing okay until my daughter started crying....then my son, later in the day. My Kindergardener doesn't completely grasp it yet. I told them it's okay to cry; it's just going to be a sad day.
A year ago, after many of us fought the school district, they decided to close 3 schools (they will say only 2, but it really was 3). Low enrollment, they claim. And we lost. Just devestating to split up such a great community.
Time to look ahead. Be positve! Summer is here! There are playdates to make; places to explore! We will go to the new science magnet school next year. And it will be an extraordinary school! Change brings about new opportunies....or so I need to believe.
