Jacaranda

It was years before I knew how to pronounce jacaranda. They were only in books and I always expect these trees to be in exotic tropical places, not popping up around the neighborhood, but they are in bloom in many places about town. Great bursts of bright purple sing out around unsuspecting corners and get noticed for a few weeks every year.

Today’s good read: The Trouble with Goats and Sheep, by Joanna Cannon. “There was nowhere to escape the heat. It was there every day when we awoke, persistent and unbroken, and hanging in the air like an unfinished argument.”  I have marked so many passages that I may as well copy out the whole book.
