Backhouse Rossie Estate

It was our co-nana that, over conversation yesterday, suggested we might enjoy a visit to Backhouse Rossie, and she was quite correct. There was a lot to see and a nice café too.

We followed the recommended route round the Bear Walk (mainly for children), took in the queen's Footsteps (where Mary, Queen of Scots would have walked when visiting the old house from Falkland Palace) through to the walled garden.

The garden here is divided to include a rill (main picture), labyrinth, orchard and parterre for cut flowers, the dividers being a herbaceous border, running North/South and Scotland's longest interrupted rose archway, running East/West.

The most delightful turned out to be a white Buddleia simply swarming with red admiral butterflies (and one peacock), I lost count at 18 when there were still more on the far side of the bush but there were others all around the garden.
