Loke - Train and God
We felt rather lucky when we set out on our walk and one of the first things we saw was Loke, the steam train that was used at Galtström when it was producing iron. We went over to take pictures and to chat and discovered this was Loke's first outing in over two years.
Loke (often Loki in English) was the trickster god in Norse mythology, and this train looks rather reliable. Maybe it's a word game as a steam train in Swedish is an ånglok (ång-steam, lok-lokomotiv).
The young guy in this picture was being shown the ins and outs of the steam train and eventually he drove it off down the track and into the forest. I felt a little envious...
We walked on through the forest, seeing the train return, and then round the coast a little to where we knew there were some sea buckthorn bushes growing. Unfortunately the berries weren't ripe so we'll have to return in a couple of weeks if we want to get some of these unusual fruits.
We got rained on a little but the day was basically dry, though still very windy. On previous visits we'd eaten lunch sitting on flat rocks by the sea. Today the waves were sweeping up and over those rocks! We sat on the very edge and kept an eye out for bigger waves but our feet stayed dry through lunch.
We paused for ice-creams at the cafe on the way back to the camper vans and then had something of a rest before we gathered various dishes and sat outside for dinner.
It was chilly but we added jumpers and hung windbreaks and enjoyed the outdoor life.
We talked a fair bit about our families, where we came from and what formed us. It was a lovely evening socially even as it got really damp as darkness arrived.
We put everything away because we knew yet more rain would arrive in the night!!
