Safely out of the way

The builders are due tomorrow to start on removing the old and crumbling ponga log 'retaining wall', after which they will put in a very expensive one, which is essential, as was shown during the major storms this year.

I had to move lots of things out of the way. Small square terra cotta tiles covered the mud between the house and the ponga logs. S has some ideas about how to use them (and others moved previously). A large number of slate tiles had been taken up off the floor at m-i-l's house when S' brother renovated there. That had been the first slate floor I had laid; for sentimental reasons I wanted some of them and he didn't want any. They needed to be shifted to safety.

Also at risk of being in the way and therefore just thrown away were some doorsteps from the old villa in Herne Bay; saved "in case" along with fence posts. A mix of Kauri and Totara, some inches thick. I found a different place of safety for them than this; where all the pots from the deck and the aforesaid tiles have been put, out of their way.

In two weeks some degree of normality will have returned. And much will be returned to whence it came.
