Ardnamurchan Lighthouse
Via Mingarry Castle for a luxury++ afternoon tea, which was pretty damned delicious.* Petted a most delightful Irish Wolfhound while the cousins sat with baby rabbits.
Climbed the 152-167 steps to listen to to our enthusiastic and animated tour guide tell us about the progression of different lamps (a load of LEDs a lot less interesting than a Fresnel lense), the ledge and handrail for cleaning windows, the relentless uniform-wearing and the laborious cranking of the clockwork mechanism. Then got to go on the balcony for a full blast of sea air from mainland Britain's most westerly point. (Not quite as forceful as "mustard" deck on Holyhead to Dublin.)
Resisted making everyone stop the car so that I could poke around in some old hazelwood.
*Sidenote for myself: I am usually a bit glum about not particularly liking venison, because I recognise the deer population in Scotland is massively out of whack (etc etc) however the afternoon tea had some epic cured venison in its sandwiches. Very nice.
