Fragrant Gladiolus

We bought a mixed bag of bulbs from Lidl back in the Spring and planted them in various beds, including these underneath the bird feeder.

The leaves have been growing vigorously with no sign of flowers until yesterday when a few buds appeared and, today, this first bloom. It has a very gentle fragrance.

Apart from Tess’s Keep Fat, we’ve had a much needed restful day. I baked a batch of loaves, we had a stroll to get ingredients for dinner (lemon pasta with prawns, anchovies and capers - very tasty), a wander up town to buy greetings cards( there seem to be a lot of birthdays and anniversaries in August) but not a lot else.
