Scots Pine

A lovely late afternoon walk on Strensall Common. 

I was chasing butterflies and had wandered off the path into the long grasses when a huge adder slithered past inches from my toes. And I was only wearing sandals. I really do not like snakes and I was absolutely petrified, frozen to the spot. It took a while for my heart rate to come down, to force my legs to move and to get myself back to the path. I only wish I'd had the presence of mind to take a picture!
