Tower
One of our favourite places to eat - Fishers in Leith. We’ve been eating here for many, many years - on our own, with friends, with family. Superbly cooked fish, excellent service - couldn’t be better.
The tower was built in 1695 when the port here was just being developed. It was originally a windmill. The battlements were added during the Napoleonic Wars when it was used as a signal tower relaying flag messages to incoming vessels.
We drove up to Edinburgh this morning and lunched here. We are staying at the Premier Inn by the harbour. Tonight we have a concert at the Usher Hall, then tomorrow it’s a day of bookish things at the Book Festival. A lovely, sunny day today - it may rain tomorrow.
