Dinosaur on the loose!
We spent a good amount of time in the garden today, weeding and pruning and tidying, ably assisted by Stormin' Norman. He finds the warmer, sunny conditions much more to his liking than the recent cool, damp days.
This evening we listened to the Prom concert: Berg's Violin concerto played by the virtuoso Leila Josefowicz (whom we have seen perform live) followed by Mahler's 7th Symphony complete with cowbells, tenor horn, guitar and mandolin. Sakari Oramo had been scrambled from Finland, just six days ago, to conduct the BBC Symphony Orchestra, after Andrew Davis had to withdraw due to illness. Originally, it was to be Mahler's 10th Symphony, but I was very happy to hear his 7th. Afterwards I thought about all the arrangements that must have been made to ensure the concert turned out as well as it did. It must be a hard life being a professional musician, travelling around, having to change plans at a moment's notice, relying on your family to maintain your home life, etc, and sadly not conducive to long and stable relationships.
