Dark Bar
We’ve found that under the midnight sun people like to have a dark bar to retreat to.
The skipper and mate were astonished because there was a crew mutiny in the morning at Pyramiden. Normally our breakfasts were long, slow affairs, but today we had heard there were beluga whales in the area, so we were up and moving super early so we could tour the base of the glacier and look for them. The professionals were more interested in a lie in (after consuming a little too much vodka with the Russians last night) and getting back to Longyearbyen in time to grab a convenient berth. But they went along with our sudden energy and ambition, and we were rewarded with a beautiful calm morning, with puffins, seals, minke whales, and yes, belugas, all showing off in the sunshine. ANd yes, we got a convenient berth on our return, and all went out for a team dinner and drinks at the dark bar later. Back in Longyearbyen - wonderful sailing adventures done.
