Blue Plaque

Went to Topsham today, walking there from Darts Farm. On the way there is a fabulous RSPB bird hide, with settees,  second hand books, refreshments, and picture windows, as well as the traditional simple wooden flaps. Luxury with great views of a tidal marsh. Bird of the day was a whimbrel. We went to Topsham Museum, again, beautifully located in a lovely building, and I looked round the Dick Pym exhibition for the second time. Dick Pym was a goalkeeper, born in Topsham, who played for Exeter City. He was signed by Bolton Wanderers for a record fee, which secured Exeter’s ground where they still play. He played for them in three cup finals in the 1920s, winning three cup winners medals, and didn’t concede a goal. After his playing days were over he went back to being a fisherman in Topsham. A new blue plaque was erected only last week and here it is. if you are wondering what a top class successful footballer looked like in 1923, see the extra.
Come on you whites.
