Spurrell's Cross

Dartmoor has many ancient crosses. This one is Spurrell's Cross. It stands on an ancient route across the moor, connecting Buckfast Abbey and Plympton Priory. It's unusual in that it has spurs on the arms of the cross, although one of the arms is missing. There was no wind up here today and the climb was hard work in the warm, humid weather. I always imagine how it must have looked to see a line of hooded monks here, moving slowly and silently across the moor.
