Kirkbuster Loch, Pre-Breeze
Are you sitting comfortably? Then I’ll begin. For the last peedie while Orkney has been preternaturally flat calm; not so today. Gradually a steady breeze has arisen, all the more spell-breaking because it’s been from the north west and airish. The day started with working on draught letters to my MP and MSP; the topic is Corporation Tax and the demanding thereof. I then phoned Mrs Ross (our Nairn correspondent) but she was shopping through in Inversnecky. I called later and she provided an update of her d-i-l in Ballybunnion. Totally unbidden I’ve washed the windows (CMC away across at the Hoy bolt hole). As they used to say in Methlick, I’m a hen pecket loon. I have now started making a vegetable bake. Fanny Craddock’s voice came through the ether; Johnny was searching for his monocle in the custard. Hazelburn 10, triple distilled, a light vanilla thrill. I have dipped into Albert Camus and read about conditions for Spanish miners in 1934, thus taking vicariousness to a new depth.
Nation shall speak unto Nation.
