Scrumping

I’m not really one for making plans.

However, where something is offered for free, should be great fun and assists with childcare in the summer holidays, it’s difficult not to mark the calendar up accordingly.

So it was with a cricket camp that was offered by the county council at the usual club from 10-3pm on a Monday/Tuesday. Naturally, I jumped at the chance and the wee ones were really looking forward to it. On arrival at the club it was immediately obvious that save for one other girl, no one was there and there was nary a cricket coach in sight.

Our day was a little improvised from there, so we headed off to Grange only to do a complete volte face as it was queuing a LONG way, so we found ourselves in Levens village and played basketball and had a kick about at the local park. Note to self: always have a picnic and a football and/or cricket set in the car over the summer.

When we’d finished munching our sandwiches, m’boy and I continued our kick about whilst the girls worked their way around the brambles surrounding the site and gathered plentiful fat, juicy blackberries which will form the core of a crumble in the not too distant future.

Later on we went up to my sister’s for a delicious Spag Bol and were entertained once more by the sight of my indefatigable 19-month old nephew running literal rings around everyone. My brother in law’s lamentation of “this is him tired” was an absolute gem. Lovely way to finish the day and so nice to see the cousins playing together.

We finished up by completing a viewing of surprisingly good Karate Kid remake. The wee ones were on the edge of their seats.
