Pau Funicular and Motor Circuit

Crossed from Spain into France today. Staying on edge of Pau with great views of Pyrenees- see Stiffknees's blip.  Used the Pau Funicular to get from car parking to explore the old town and find the motor circuit. The funicular opened in 1907 and rises 85 feet at an average incline of 30%. Saves the old legs and best of all it has been free to ride since 1978. The motor circuit uses public roads like Monaco. Pau was first used in 1930 one year after Monaco. The pits are opposite the station and you follow the red and white painted curbs to follow the track. There are holes in the pavements to erect the armco barriers.  Like Monaco you can't drive round the circuit because of one way streets. Also racing cars don't have to obey traffic lights. Main events are classic cars in May and F4 and F3 in September. Engines would sound awesome bouncing off the town walls and buildings. Photos of funicular are courtesy of Stiffknees. I was too busy watching the machinery.
