Dragonfly
A day of sunshine and showers. I abandoned my original plan to climb Goat Fell and decided to get the bus to Machrie, arriving at lunchtime when most of the rain would have passed. Once at Brodick, however, I discovered that resurfacing works are going on all week and the buses are only going as far as Sannox, so Sannox it was.
First of all I walked for an hour into Glen Sannox, enjoying the grandeur of the hills around me and the lovely clear river. Then I walked back to Brodick along the Arran Coastal path. Disappointingly, this goes along the road to Corrie and then along forestry tracks to Brodick. I hadn’t realised that four days without seeing or hearing any cars would leave me disliking roads so much. I cut down through the grounds of Brodick Castle, which I always enjoy. Such beautiful trees.
In Brodick I was surprised to meet Lynda, the former head teacher of our local primary school. We had a nice chat before I caught the bus back to Lamlash. I fell asleep when I got back so haven’t cooked my tea yet!
The photo is of a Golden-Ringed Dragonfly - the UK’s longest. I met a young man in Glen Sannox who had just found it on the path. It looked healthy enough so I hope it flew away.
