Still Finding Treasures
Amongst the items uncovered today there has been some very old soft toys, brass money boxes in the shapes of an owl, letterbox and Teddy Bear. Another money box, which was Daniel's, and he is now 45 years old, was the Darth Maul one in todays blip. He's going to get it back when he pops around, along with his old Hornby Railway set with the two Intercity 125 engines (one at each end of the train). It's complete, just the box is a bit of a mess but we've patched it up with wide sellotape.
Incidentally, Daniel knew Ray Park, who played Darth Maul in The Phantom Menace. He, Ray Park, did Martial Arts, obviously, but I can't remember how Daniel knew him.
The other picture, above, is a letter from Marlane to me when I was in Gan, Maldives. I recently mentioned that I flew off to the Maldives, for a 7 month posting, only 2 or 3 weeks after our wedding. I found the bag with our letters, bearing in mind there was no internet in 1975, not publicly anyway, and certainly no hand-held phones.
In the bag are hundreds of letters, we both wrote most days so 7 Months = around 212 days and there are nearly twice as many letters in the bag as they were going both ways. This one is numbered 107, and postmarked 30 September 1975. We were married 17 May 1975.
Look at the cost of first class postage then though!!
Although it was going to the Maldives it was also going to a BFPO number, a UK military station abroad so used the British Forces Post Office system, which doesn't work now as well as it did 48 years ago!
