why does a goose cross the road?

I was driving down Lake Drive today, when I saw 2 geese at the side of the road, trying to leave the park & go accross to the other side. They were looking back & forth, much like people do, waiting for the cars to go past. When I looked to the rt. I saw a whole gaggle of geese just standing around in the grass, in amongst the trees of the park, so I pulled over. By the time I grabbed my camera & got out, the first 2 had crossed, & this 3rd. one was now waiting to cross. He turned & looked at me as I came closer, but seemed determined to get accross to his buddies. Why they didn't just fly accross is beyond me! He eventually gave up, & waddled back over to the larger group of geese.
