And more narrow streets…

Today is Fief Day in Sark. Celebrating 458 years of Fiefdom. Back in the 1560s nobody lived in Sark. Jersey obtained permission from Queen Elizabeth 1 for the island to be settled by being divided into 40 Fiefs, each of which would be responsible for maintaining law and order. The 40 tenants were duly found; mostly from St Ouen in Jersey and the feudal history of Sark began. At some point Sark, which had long been part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey attempted to become part of Jersey but Guernsey were having one of it and today it remains part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey.
One of the 40 settling families were the Le Feuvre’s who are my descendants. And that is why I am a Guernsey Donkey rather than a Jersey Crapaud.
