Bridges across the Medway

Went up to Bexley to attend a meeting of Information Technology subject leaders in schools to tell them about what our company, Impact Education Solutions, can offer. On the way up I collected freshly printed leaflets and toured along roads I used to frequent regularly when I worked in Greenwich. At last one of the computer centres I was instrumental in designing, building and operating now looks like it is going to be put to some use.

In March 2011 the centre, along with the other 2, was closed as part of the draconian cuts to Children's Services and has remained closed and empty for 2 years. What a waste.

On returning home I was thinking of an appropriate blip and this view came to mind. Three massive bridges across the estuary of the River Medway near Rochester. When I first travelled this way there was one 4 lane bridge, then a second 4 lane bridge was added followed by the High Speed railway bridge linking the Channel Tunnel with St Pancras Station. I've crossed the road bridges thousands of times, but never stopped to look at the view. I've crossed the rail bridge once and it is a spectacular experience, albeit brief.

The rail bridge is more elegant I think, but together they form a striking image, especially as they disappear into the distance and are crossed by other bridges. I like the increase in gradient as the railway rises to a summit to cross through the North Downs via a tunnel.
