One Night Only

For a variety of reasons - far too complicated to go into here - we found ourselves, at short notice, in need of a drummer for last night’s gig.
Stepping into the breach was our previous drummer, James. Nearly a year since he last played with us, but it was almost like he’d never been away. A couple of new ones he wasn’t entirely familiar with - and a couple of older ones the rest of us struggled to remember - but plenty of energy all round so we got through everything, one way or the other. It put me in mind of the Panto earlier this year when we had to replace the Dame at the last minute - the same sort of electric atmosphere where you knew it could go fabulously well or gloriously wrong, but no way of knowing for definite until you did it.
A great night, but a late one. I was definitely feeling the effects of a very strenuous PT session that morning by the time I was driving home. And those muscles were aching even more today, so it’s been a very quiet day today, involving as little movement as possible!
So, was it one night only? Well, possibly not. There is a chance that the same set of circumstances might crop up later this year. Maybe we’ll have to advertise it as a reunion gig if that’s the case!
