Karelian Pomp

This extraordinary house replicates a vintage style of architecture – Eastern Karelian Pomp (my term). The formidable lady who had it built was born in the easternmost village of Finland – bordering on the then Soviet Union.  Finland lost the war and the area was ceded to USSR. The lady in question – Aira Samulin – is a dancer and celebrity who wanted to recreate a visual echo of her childhood culture. She's 96 years of age right now, and still going strong.
