Scarce Swallowtail Underside

We cut the Buddleia down completely earlier this year, but it has come back with avengence! The butterflies are very happy about that and I was very happy to see this fresh specimen of a Scarce Swallowtail today too. I tried to get this underside view as I think it looks like a Manta Ray. It also shows the reason birds try to catch these from the back as it looks like a head with antennae. The butterfly can then generally get away having lost part of its tail. Extra is the topside, « normal » view.

Out for dinner tonight and tomorrow too. We don’t usually have such a full social life!
