Sculptures!
Out and about to see The Angel of the North and Terris Novalis up close!
TAON by Antony Gormley was brilliant: huge arm pan. Chunky with metal that has worn and changed colour with weathering. Course there are various bits of graffiti! I chose close up shots to give an idea of the structure! The head and a small part of the back!
After that we motored on to Terris Novalis. WAZE took us through lots of country roads. So many through woods with huge trees meeting overhead like natural cathedrals. Loved them!
We finally got there and parked in Morrisons car park, crossed the road and walked a hundred or so feet and there they were! See extra! Consett had steel works and mining. Not sure of the meaning of all the different feet which I found fascinating! The sculpture was designed by Tony Cragg . It is a symbol of Consett’s post-steelworks regeneration .
He won the Turner prize for this. There are two sculptures: a theodolite and an engineer’s level.
After having a Costa we went back to the hotel and rested a bit and then walked back to the Metrocentre where after a bit of shopping we ate at Bella Italia. And have just made it back to the hotel before nightfall!
More about the Feet!
