Singapore Sling at Raffles
What better is there to do on our last day in Singapore with the warm rain falling than take part in what is said to be one of the true rites of passage of world travel!
The Long Bar of Raffles hotel is the place to savour the original Singapore Sling created more than 100 years ago. The decor retains the punkah wallah ceiling fans inspired by Malayan plantation life in the 1920s - exactly the time when my grandfather was the manager of such a rubber plantation in Malaya . I would love to know if my grandparents ever visited Raffles before they returned to Scotland in 1928.
Now we are preparing ourselves for the final part of our journey to Australia- we leave for Sydney after midnight then on to Brisbane. Time to get the cases packed again !
