Goblet shaped apple tree
Planted about thirty year ago this tree has experienced a tough time. J started to take it in hand 13 - 14 years ago by pruning, shaping and cutting it back to reduce the height. It was some years before he was happy with it and visitors would comment on the shape. Unfortunately several winters ago it fell victim to the deer invasion. They stripped the bark of the lower four feet of the tree, we both thought that would be the end.
However the deer fence has dealt with that problem and perhaps along the strange spring weather we have an apple tree that is looking strong, healthy and bursting with blossom. I wanted to show all of this but realised it was beyond my capabilities. The base of the trunk looks interesting, but no blossom could be seen. Higher up the lighting was wrong on the one side of the screen and for some reason all views of the blossom resulted In a blurred image. With a step ladder in hand the resulting picture was taken from inside the bowl of the tree. I thought it would be a fairly easy subject, this was not the case but I have had a happy few hours trying.
