Yellow flags

On my way out to Southwater Country Park to look for more damselflies, I pass this beautiful countryside verge full of early summer flowers.
These yellow flags are growing in the ditch which until recently had about 18 inches of water in it, but now is just a bit soggy.
I love the way the leaves are pointed, and contrast beautifully with the broad leaf species growing all around, and the colour matches perfectly with the lower growing buttercups.
I love roadside verges, and feel instinctively they should be left uncut while flowering unless they are causing a hazard. Not only are they beautiful (and often 'planted' with much more imagination and pazazz than your average garden), but the amount of different species you can find living in them is amazing,
