Buggy

The enormous brown landscape is actually a Love in the Mist seed head.  The little shield bug beetle is about the size of a small ladybird, and indeed, when I first saw it that's what I thought it was until I got a bit closer.  So it really is quite small.  

As you will see, it has only the one antenna, I'm guessing the other presumably met with an accident at some point. 

I did have a look at various identification  resources, to see if I could establish exactly which variety of shield bug it is.  I'm not convinced that it is fully grown as yet, as it is considerably smaller than most shield bugs so that might help explain why I failed miserably to find anything quite like it in the online resources.  So it will have to remain a mystery for now.
