Silky Rosegill

The 'eggs' that I blipped two days ago did not turn into Parasol mushrooms but the much more exciting and beautiful Silky Rosegill (Volvariella bombycnia), a rare find in Britain. It is named, in part, after the silky threads that cover the cap. These are quite sizeable specimens, the largest is a good 20cm tall with a 15cm cap. They are growing inside an old beech trunk. I'm amazed at how much they've developed in only two days.
