HMS Drake

Diving the Antrim coastthis weekend, from Ballycastle over to Rathlin Island. This mornings dive was on the great north wall of Rathlin, it's a massive drop off from 15-200m - spectacular.

This afternoon we did the wreck of HMS Drake, a WWI armoured cruiser built in 1902 and wrecked on 2nd October 1916. She was torpedoed by a German U-boat while escorting a convoy off the north coast of Ireland. The captain succeeded in anchoring in Church Bay, Rathlin Island, but Drake capsized later. She's pretty mashed up now but we had a good dive. This is my buddy S inspecting life on the shotline during our safety stop
