La Bibournoise
House Concerts are all the rage now for both established musicians and up & coming artists. Jamie and I had the opportunity to attend one as it was being held the front room of his workmate's flat.
Genticorum is a popular traditional Québécois trio from Canada who play mainly traditional/Celtic music with traditional mainly French lyrics and jazzy elements. Celebrated at the 2011 Canadian Folk Music Awards, they won Traditional Album of the Year and Ensemble of the Year. Listening to these guys on Spotify before hearing them live really didn't do them justice, partially because I couldn't understand all the French but also because the setting and their stage personalities really brought the music alive. Fantastic music and a great show!
Support was provided by Twelfth Day who are a Scottish duo at the forefront of modern British folk music combining traditional elements of playing with contemporary styles and influences in a refreshing and creative way. Their covers EP which is free online is full of innovative arrangements that on hearing them sound like stand alone tracks. Impressive!
