We have sinned.
We may be in a spot of bother! I was out this evening photographing some of the village community garden areas. This is a close up of one of our wild areas that we have planted with, among other species, corn marigolds Glebionis segetum. They are the yellow flowers in the photograph.
On reflection the marigolds may have been a serious error of judgment. The corn marigold was such a serious weed in Scotland during the 13th century, that King Alexander II passed a law stating that if a farmer allowed so much as a single plant to produce seed in amongst his crops, then he would be fined a sheep. We are concerned that the law may never have been repealed and we are clean out of sheep!
