Dragonfly Love

Three dragonflies were flitting around the yard. They seemed to be both playing and fighting. I’m not sure if the conflict was about courtship or territoriality.

Finally, one was bugging the other two enough that they buzzed off.

This guy proceeded to put on a twenty minute air show. He flitted, soared, hovered, zipped, helicoptered, zigged, and sometimes zagged. He even flew backwards! I bet he hit speeds of 50 kph! And, he never once left our yard.

All of the above is to say, he is very difficult to photograph…with an iPhone…on a bright day. I basically held the phone steady, on video, and hoped. Extra, both the boat and the dragonfly entered the very last frame.

I have always loved dragonflies.
