This morning the barley in the adjacent field was cut and by mid afternoon all the straw had been bailed and much of it stacked and looking bright contrasting with the dark clouds behind.  The contractors had been very fortunate to get it harvested before the later torrential showers.   Last year the field was cut 5 weeks later on 28th August and on looking back at blips I see that two years ago, coincidentally 25th July was the earliest harvest here since I kept records when barley was harvested on September 13th in 2012 and wheat even later on September 17th in 2020.   The barley seed was planted last year on September 18th.
