Righteous Recyclers

Portland was one of the first US cities to institute a curbside recycling program, and we're proud of it! We may even be a bit righteous about it. We are now able to recycle compostible foodstuffs, yard debris, most plastics, metal, paper and glass. Every Tuesday in our neighborhood, the streets are lined with festive multi-colored bins standing at attention.

It makes us feel good, as though we are doing something to counteract all the abuse and neglect our over-consumption causes to the planet. Perhaps we are, but it's not enough. Not nearly enough.
