Cork Oak Tree

Cork Oak tree in the gardens of Saltram House, Plymouth, taken whilst waiting for the house to open. Inside the house I was really impressed with how knowledgeable some of the room guides are. There were two things which I found particularly interesting today. Firstly, one of the surviving copies of The Nuremberg Chronicle.  The Chronicle is an illustrated encyclopedia which was completed in 1493. Originally written in latin it was shortly afterwards translated into German.  It was estimated that approximately 400 Latin and 300 German copies survived into the twenty-first century. The second thing which really interested me was a polished marble marquetry topped table. The colours and patterns found in Italian marble are amazing. So, on a grey, wet, Monday morning I have enjoyed a virtual taste of the Mediterranean, Germany and Italy!
