Sky Dancer

I’m both grateful and amazed that we’re actually outside today, managing to carve a dry hour or so out of the deluge that falls for much of the day.

It’s back to West Shore, but this time to the boating lake. Built in 1896 for model yachts, it’s now commandeered by seabirds who seem to use it as some sort of spa, flying in from the sea to bathe and preen before returning to the beach once more. It’s a short walk from the car, but today this is all that I can manage.

I’ve written previously about just how photogenic herring gulls can be, and how much interest comes from the markings on the juveniles. It’s those youngsters that predominate today, flying up against the gusty winds, adjusting wings and delicately balancing before landing in the shallow choppy waters.

Thanks so much for your kind response to yesterday’s crow!
