Lion's blood

We did a German exchange when I was 14, spent a week over there with a host family and a couple of months later we reciprocated. When 'my ' German was here we had a bottle of dandelion and burdock..imagine trying to translate that! Well, I did my best and came up with 'lowensaft', my guest looked horrified ...and then told me lowensaft is lion's blood! Ok, I got that very wrong and never did find out the true translation...but have never forgotten it.
