Chasing Pavements

Remember when l was a little girl, holding mummy’s hand as we shopped the streets of Leeds City Centre or a day in ‘town as we called it then. 
On rainy days, especially when the pavements were wet we would notice these skylights that allowed some daylight into the basements below the shops.
I think l might have fallen in love with these colours then, so beautiful in a smoke ridden, post war,  industrial city where nearly every building was black with soot.
Most of these are gone now, paved over or demolished but as l passed here today all those memories came back, especially holding that hand
